I'm Busy, not Lazy

Updated: Sep 8, 2019

Progress has been slow, but recently things have been coming along. I've purchased a hank-on genoa (well used) on Craigslist that is almost identical in size to the class genoa. This is good! A bunch of friends have donated ropes and lines to the cause, so all the old, ruined wire-to-rope halyards will be replaced with at least reasonable new-"er" stuff. Ditto for lines like the barberhaulers, vang and so on. I soaked the mainsheet and the mainsheet blocks in warm soapy water multiple times over the weekend and they came out pretty well. I think "Alpha" is all set for lines. Another purchase on Craigslist went sour when the advertiser put up an advertisement for a mainsail, but sent a genoa. Who makes a mistake like that?

Anyway, the big news is that I went up to the boat t his past weekend and dry-fit the rudder. It came out remarkably accurately for how I determined the shape, from the old, ruined rudder.

It fits pretty well. It took some sanding and sawing at the top to get it in there, but hey....even the groove for the rudder post fit.

Now I have to finish fiberglassing, fair the rudder and make the bronze lower pintle. The tiller is ready go go, it's been washed and oiled, so it's looking pretty. Once that's installed the boat will be steerable and the first REALLY big project will be done!
