Make the Trailer Road-Worthy

Updated: Jan 13, 2019

December 2018: While the previous owner had encouraged me to take the trailer on the road the way it was, I was extremely nervous about doing so, because of the extensive rust on one of the main beams. One look will show bad it really was.

When I started cutting the rusted-out beam with the reciprocating saw, piles of rust wound up on the ground. Turns out there was more rust than steel! I had bought some steel here locally in the Bay Area, purchased a hand grinder, a reciprocating saw and a lot of hacksaw blades and went to work in Mid-December. After about three hours of sawing and grinding, the new beam was fitted in.

The welder came by and an hour later, wow! I'm MUCH more confident in the trailer now!

Here's a big shout-out to the welder, Daniel Silva. Dan is a pleasant guy, showed up on time and knocked out the job in no time at all. Some guys are finicky, everything has to be set up perfectly or they'll turn down the job. Dan got on the ground, into some awkward positions, and put everything back together right. If you live in the Nevada City / Grass Valley/Auburn area and need a welder, Daniel Silva comes highly recommended.
